Thank You
Despite the rain, our first ever “Eco Ride for Kayam Farm” was a success! We had fifty fearless riders who braved the elements and found the route exhilarating and beautiful. Equally water-logged, but also happy, were our 40 volunteers and the Pearlstone and Kayam staff. Our Plant Sale nearly sold out and made a great profit for us. The remaining herbs will be planted on the farm. Most importantly, we met our goals of raising awareness about Kayam Farm at Pearlstone and providing $20,000 for the wonderful experiential programming about bio-sustainability that happens there.

Cause
We are having a bike ride to raise money for our local sustainable farm! Why might you care? Do you plan on eating in the coming decades, or have other people with such plans? If so, agriculture that sustains the land on which it grows (as opposed to destroying it) might be worth considering. Kayam (http://www.pearlstonecenter.org/kayam.html) is indeed a sustainable farm, which doesn't simply practice those policies, but also teaches the next generation of leaders about sustainability, and how to do the same. ECORIDE is a fundraiser for this farm, such that it may continue to provide programming and food for the local communities, schools, camps, etc.
This ride will have a range of marked routes and rest stops for riders of all ages and skill levels, from a 1mile "Trike Hike" for preschoolers, to a serious 60 mile ride through the beautiful Maryland farmlands for serious bikers. All registered bikers and volunteers will receive a commemorative t-shirt, and for those who raise over $100 in sponsorship for the farm, additional incentives will be provided.
Kayam is an organic educational farm located at the Pearlstone Center in Reisterstown, MD. In just two years Kayam has educated almost 6,000 participants of all ages and backgrounds. The farm gives participants a powerful, fun way to learn crucial lessons in health, community, and culture. Kayam models and inspires social and ecological responsibility by engaging the community in hands-on agricultural education. The farm has 5 acres of organically grown vegetables, culinary & medicinal herbs, fruit trees, vineyards, berries & asparagus, grains, and a greenhouse. In addition to the farm, the Kayam program also includes interpretive trails, wildlife habitat and ecosystem restoration efforts, and a plethora of community education workshops, programs, and volunteer opportunities. Kayam helps reconnect people with their food and with the earth.
