Complete Kids

The “Complete Kids” retreat series will be generally focused on the inherently Jewish tenets and values that help parents to raise children with “wisdom.” Each retreat will focus on a separate ideal rooted in Jewish wisdom. Families will be able to attend whichever retreats suit their needs whether they are interested in a single topic or if they want to attend the whole series. Each retreat will be a free-standing program, but certain concepts will be built upon for those returning. A strategy for social networking will be implemented to encourage new and returning families to bond.

Each retreat will carry out its individual theme through a guest keynote, a group of workshop sessions and experiential activities, but all of the retreats will revolve around a framework of:

  • Living a Life of Values
  • Swimming Against the Mainstream
  • Literacy and Vocabulary of Wisdom
  • Teaching by Example
  • Communication
  • Compassion/Emotion
  • Impact
  • Mindful Listening

Holistic Babies: Moms & Babies Retreating Together

Our first Pearlstone Health and Renewal Institute Retreat was held in July with terrific success and impact. This retreat focused on the needs of women in the Jewish community. Evening programming was open to men, and quite a few chose to join us for meditative and nutritional activities.

We are now attempting a new retreat for the Pearlstone Health and Renewal Institute. One designed specifically for moms with babies under 2 who are not yet enrolled in preschool. This retreat is a response to the large number of young women who were disappointed that they could not attend our previous program due to their responsibilities to their babies. This retreat is setup to accommodate both the women and their babies, and their various needs, interests, and schedules. The date was picked specifically to accommodate more working mothers who will be off that Monday for the national holiday.

Eco Kids: Raising Children Who Care for the Earth

This retreat program will be coordinated with the staff of Kayam at Pearlstone and with members of the Baltimore Jewish Environmental Network at Pearlstone.

To forge a sustainable future, we need citizens who care for the earth. We need citizens who understand that planet care is the ultimate form of self-care. But we also need generations who live according to their values and convictions and who can effect positive change in their lives and the lives of others. Because public schools and the popular media cannot be counted on to produce an Earth-friendly citizenry, the task falls to parents. Yet even aware parents often lack the understanding and resources to take on such a task. EcoKids addresses this gap by presenting a coherent plan that will help parents foster love for nature, teach children the importance of environmental protection and promote Jewish environmental values and inspire action-actions that will last a lifetime.
