Summer Tiyul FAQs
Below is some of the most important information you will need and then some of the most frequently asked questions:
• Staggered, contact-free camper drop-off and pick-ups
• Pre-screening and temperature checks of all staff and campers upon arrival
• A limited number of campers at each location
• Small groups of campers
• A maximum of eight campers and 2 counselors per group, not to exceed groups of 10 people
• We recommend that parents and legal guardians of high-risk campers consult with their child’s medical provider to assess their risk and determine if camp attendance is acceptable.
Please note that NO sick camper or staff member may attend camp.
• It is up to each parent/guardian to supply a face covering or mask they prefer as their child must wear one when appropriate.
• Staff will wear face coverings during activities when maintaining physical distancing is not feasible.
• Camp activities and programs are outdoors until additional restrictions are lifted.
• Pearlstone has invested in additional handwashing stations at each location and has handsanitizing products readily available and easily accessible for all campers and staff.
• All staff have completed comprehensive training in all aspects of summer camp and are prepared with the new CDC protocols and safety procedures.
• Staff and instructors are excited to work with campers to provide the safest and best camp experience while promoting physical and mental health in all children.
Will you be providing transportation?
No, this summer we are unable to provide transportation due to the need to keep kids in distinct pods and because of social distancing protocols.
Can we carpool?
We advise against carpooling as it expands your "bubble" from your unique pod.
How will pick up and drop off work?
We are encouraging one identified adult per family be responsible for the drop-off and pick-up of the camper or children at the facility as best as possible. Staggered camper drop-off and pick-up times will be implemented this summer to reduce the number of people in one location at the same time. All Campers and parents must wear masks during pre-screening and Staff will have additional protection of face shield for pre-screen purposes only. Pre-screening will be required, and will be done outside, by individual cars. We ask all drivers to remain in their vehicles and follow the direction of staff. Individuals who are at higher risk for severe illness per CDC guidance should not drop off or pick up campers.
Will my child have to wear a mask?
According to the CDC staff will wear cloth face coverings during activities when maintaining physical distancing is not feasible due to area limitations. Masks and face coverings are not required for outdoor activities when practicing social and physical distancing measures. Until the current restrictions are lifted staff will wear face coverings when required and where appropriate according to CDC guidelines. The parent will need to supply the child’s mask or face covering. All Parents, Campers and Staff will wear masks during pick up and drop off.
Extreme Heat Days or Rain Days:
After consultation with the Department of Health, ONLY for periods of the day when it’s not possible to remain outside (heavy rain, thunderstorms, extreme heat), we will utilize some of our indoor spaces on the campus. Face masks will be required for campers age 9 and above and staff while we are in the building. Based on the Department of Health code in the event of a Full day of inclement weather we reserve the right to cancel that day of camp and would offer a daily rate refund.
Cleaning and Disinfection Procedures
Increasing the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting high-touch surfaces is significant in controlling the spread of viruses, and other microorganisms. Materials and equipment have been limited, and outdoor activities and have been planned according to social distancing measures. Where possible all materials will be provided to individuals. All materials and equipment will be sanitized between use.
A cleaning and disinfection schedule is in place for all Pearlstone locations with clear accountabilities assigned to specific staff. Additional staff has been assigned solely to focus on enhanced daily cleaning procedures. Pearlstone will provide cleaning and disinfecting of communal spaces between groups along with cleaning and disinfecting of any shared items between uses. When possible, campers will be assigned items and materials to reduce the quantity of items shared.
What kind of activities will my child be doing?
Join Pearlstone’s amazing crew of talented farmers, wilderness experts and fun-loving educators for a week of awesome adventure! Each unique day engages kids through hands-on skills, beautiful stories, great songs and fun community building.
Campers will spend the day:
• Exploring the forest with shelter building, fire making and creek walking
• Connecting to the land with seed planting and vegetable harvesting
• Caring for our animals
• Have designated swim time in the pool
• Fly on our Zip-lines
What does a sample day look like?
This program is designed to be flexible in schedule and activities. There will be a morning block of activities and an afternoon block with lunch in between. Each pod leader will choose the activities they want to do with their group and have pre-scheduled activities throughout the week. We are excited for pods to explore the woods and connect to the land and the skills they learn!
What is your refund policy?
If we have to cancel for any reason, your camp fees are 100% refundable, or will be pro-rated if we are in the middle of a week. If you choose to cancel your registration with less than a week notice, then you will not receive a refund. Additional questions can be directed to the Camp Director
