Teva History
TEVA History
Teva was founded in 1994 with the goal of immersing participants in the natural world by providing structured experiences that sensitize participants to nature’s rhythms, help them develop a more meaningful relationship with nature, and deepen their personal connection to Jewish practices and traditions.
Since 1994, Teva has served over 450 day schools, congregations, camps, JCCs, BJEs (akin to Baltimore’s CJE), youth groups, and other Jewish institutions. More than 100,000 individuals have benefited from Teva’s programs, spanning all Jewish denominations including secular and interfaith groups.
The Big Picture
Overall, Shomrei Adamah has facilitated personal growth, community building, and meaningful commitments to Tikkun Olam–healing the world—for thousands of Jewish students across the Northeast since its inception in the 1990s. Students have come away from their experiences excited about the natural world and more knowledgeable about what Jewish tradition can contribute to humanity’s understanding of and relationship with the environment!
