Farm activities that are fun for all ages. Activities, descriptions, and age limits are listed below.

We can combine any of these programs together to make a larger program, and in some cases programs naturally come together with a ritual basis, for example a Havdallah program. Please contact the program department with any questions.

Take a tour of Pearlstone's Kayam Farm, the first of its kind in North America. A unique and productive farm inspired and managed according to Jewish laws around farming. Learn about key principles that have guided Jewish agriculture for thousands of years while gaining a new perspective on how these ancient principles inspire and teach us today.
Learn with our knowledgeable farmers....
Come and learn with our knowledgeable farmers and educators how to successfully plant and tend to vegetation. This class can be catered to those who self identify as having a green thumb, or to those who do not. Learn why a plant is planted where it is and best practices for building a thriving farm and garden.

Learn about domesticated animals....
Domesticated animals have been part of human agriculture for thousands of years. The animals at Pearlstone are raised in accordance with a healthy lifestyle and the Jewish principle of Tzaar Ballei Chaim (Kindness to animals). Our animal visit looks at understanding domesticated goats and chickens, their needs, as well as practices in animal farming and sustainability.
Learn about the decomposition cycle....
An introduction to earthworms and their necessary place in decomposition and soil health as well as taking a deeper look into the cycles that renew the earth. Participants will have the opportunity to explore and interact with worms, discuss the cycles or renewal, learn the worm's role in decomposition and renewal, and learn ways the participants can work towards reconnecting to the cycles that keep the planet healthy.
Learn a profound practice....
Learn about one of the most profound practices in sustainability and farming. In this session participants will learn about the environmental benefits of composting as well as practical tips for how to incorporate it into one's home life. Explore our composting piles, as well as other parts of Pearlstone's campus, while observing the natural cycle occurring in real time, finally learn about the science behind this fascinating and beautiful cycle.

Farm to Table ( Seasonal)
Wheat / Pita Making
In this fun, hands-on program, learn about the important role food and blessings have played in the Jewish tradition and the ancient practices associated with pita making -- from harvesting and threshing wheat, to grinding the wheat berries, to forming the pita -- culminating in a delicious snack.
Ages 5 and up
Spend time with one the most fun and delicious Pearlstone past-times, making a savory snack (like hummus or pesto) or a refreshing smoothie made from Pearlstone's own organic produce on our signature Bike blender. Choose from the adult or kid's size bike. As participants have fun they will also learn important questions around environmental practices!
Learn about one of the ultimate preserving practices as you harvest your own produce from Pearlstone's Kayam Farm and preserve it in pickle form. In this fun, hands-on session your group will have the opportunity to think about the role picking has played in the world of food over the span of human history, and the role it has played in Jewish culture. Each participant will leave with their own pickles and the skill set to continue the practice.
Ages 5 and up
In this hands-on fun session, participants will learn how to make their own jam while exploring the value of Baal Tashchit (Do not waste). Participants will be prompted to thing about food waste and the value of buying local, as well as the importance of contributing to environmentally sustainable practices as a Jewish practice.
Ages 7 and up

Spend time harvesting seasonal foods from our organic farm and creating a delicious, healthy snack in our outdoor kitchen. You'll love learning to make food the Pearlstone way and will feel great knowing every ingredient that you are using comes from our farm!
